Are Subscriptions worth it?
In 2018 I dabbled in subscriptions, I wanted to see if it was worth the hype. I have had friends who had Ipsy for a long time and canceled after a while saying that they would usually end up receiving the same things a couple of months down the line. Looking at all the subscription options out there, I was excited to give it a go.
Ipsy has been one of my favorites because I was always excited to receive makeup each month. It would come in a shiny pink envelope with a new cute makeup bag filled with beauty products each month. The items inside were mostly mini travel sizes which honestly I don’t mind because I cannot travel around with a full-size mascara or blush, I'm carrying all my kid's stuff with me. Ipsy can be a great way to try new things as well; it would suck if you find a brand that you want to try out but don’t want to spend $32.00 on a mascara. Ipsy gives you the chance of trying it out for $10.00 a month plus tax.
Sephora has a smiler monthly subscription at the same price as Ipsy that includes makeup products that you would find in their store. The difference is that Ipsy would also add more affordable priced items while Sephora would consist of pricier items. Which if you want to try pricier makeup and skincare products you should give this a go as well. These subscriptions are also suitable for people who are new at makeup and don’t know so much about products and don’t want to go crazy buying makeup and a skin care product.
I also wanted to give a try to the non-makeup subscriptions. Mightlynest.com was one that I saw while schooling thru the endless post on Facebook. Its a monthly subscription (apparently) that send you eco-friendly household products and gave you access to purchasing Eco-friendly items at a discounted price. I am a sucker for eco-friendly household items especially when it comes to the kids and cleaning products. It can be difficult when cleaning with harsh products while having children that have Asthma. Some products can be too strong in odor and ingredients. The subscription is $10 a month, and you get something every month, I have received beautiful dryer balls that you can place essential oils on and some Swedish washcloths.
Subscriptions can be found advertised everywhere, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram. For the hell of it, I choose Rocksbox a jewelry subscription, not so bad but can be a little tricky at first mainly for me lol. You pay $21 a month, and you get to send three pieces of jewelry. These pieces are sent based off the style profile you choose in the beginning; you can change this whenever you want. These items are not your’s to keep every month, but you do have the option to purchase them. In each box, you are sent a note in the box that tells you how much each item is and if you decide to keep them, you are then charged for that said item. If you decide that you don’t want them, you can send them back, and you will get a new set. The $21 monthly fee is used as a credit toward your purchase, which I’m my opinion is excellent.
Overall, I think subscriptions can be fun and let you try new things without fulling committing to buying it. Thes prices of these subscriptions aren’t crazy and can fit in a budget. Just keep in mind the more you have, the more the fees add up. I would recommend these to friends and family, especially to those of that don’t use makeup so much.
