Keto- What I eat in a day.
When out with friends or family, everyone has an idea of what they want to eat. I usually check out the menu beforehand to see what Keto options they have. When traveling on the weekends with the kids I do notice that I am opting for small, pre-packed food to take with me, other then wracking my brain on what to eat. The longer your on a ketogenic diet the easier it is to eat outside.
Over the past couple of weeks, I met with a couple of friends that wanted to know more about the ketogenic diet, what I eat, and to figure out what they should be doing to remain in ketosis. So, what is ketosis?
Ketosis is a normal metabolic process. When the body does not have enough glucose for energy, it burns stored fats instead; this results in a build-up of acids called ketones within the body. Some people encourage ketosis by following a diet called the ketogenic or low-carb diet.
There are different ways to get your body into Ketosis. There’s the natural way, like eating healthy fats and low carbs, and the quick ways like consuming exogenous ketones. I have done both, but I find that my body responds better to eating healthy fats while keeping my carb intake low. Eating properly is a priority for me when it comes to eating a ketogenic diet. Over the year, meeting people who are on the Keto diet, I have noticed that some actually do not eat the right foods. The assumption is that all we eat is Bacon, Cheese, and Eggs. This is not the case at all.
My daily food consumption changes all the time and I’m not stuck eating the same thing every day. Below is a sample of some of the things I eat:
Breakfast :
Keto Oatmeal if I am in a rush.
2 Good Yogurt with some homemade granola
Eggs (Any Style) with Smoked Salmon, and some greens *Favorite*
Coconut Flour Pancakes
Almond Flour Pancakes
Egg Bites (Egg Muffins)
Lunch: (Optional depending on what time I have breakfast)
Tuna, onion, oregano, mayo and a light amount of pink Himalayan salt. Either on its own or on a low carb wrap. Arugula Salad with Protein usually chicken or steak, I don’t like adding too many topping and I keep my dressing homemade just because I know what is actually going in
Leftovers from the night before.
Dinner:
Zucchini Pasta with Grilled Chicken, usually pesto or marinara
Cauliflower rice and protein
Veggie stir-fry and protein
Chicken, Avocado Salad
Baked Salmon and Broccoli
Usually, I eat whatever I make the kids except that carbs like rice or mash potatoes that part of dinner I substitute with veggies low in carb or a salad with some avocado.
