Fashionable Mom...

I walked into my oldest daughter's school one day and noticed some of the girls from her group staring at me. My daughter ran to me and gave me a big hug, one of the little things I look foward to during the day. She went to grab her things, when I noticed the girls asking her questions and looking back at me. My daughter called me over and it began: "Are you really her mom?" "You look so young!" "You always dress nice, my mom doesn't look like you." I didn't know what to say. I smiled and said "Yeah, I'm her mom. Thank you"

Walking to get my other two little  ones I couldn't help but think is this the result of mothers having children? Have we lost a sense of style? We put down all the fashion magazines and picked up pregnancy and parenting magazines instead. That was me for a long time after my oldest was born. I spent my time wearing jeans and tee shirts that made it easy to breastfeed. Ugh, and those bras were a killer. I would like to think that we all love to feel beautiful, and look beautiful too.

At first I was alright with it; lazy days and no sleep. But after being out with my daughter, catching a glimpse of myself in a store front window I was not happy with what I saw. What happened to the cool fashionable person I was before having her? Did I loose myself as an individual? Over a long talk with a fellow mom, she recommended that I do things slowly. I started wearing makeup and starting slowly on building my new style as a mom and as a person. Simple tees, distressed jeans, a cute neakless, scarf and either converses or flats. Once I started feeling more like myself I added more to my style, blazers, cute jackets and shoes that were cute and I could run after kids with.

I was so excited that I came back to my senses because it was a treat for myself to get dressed and feel good in myself. After hearing that little girl telling me her mom didn't dress up at all, made me worry that a lot of us moms lose ourselves as individuals once we become a mother. We are the ones our children look up to and setting a great example that we as a woman should always feel confident in ourselves. It's vital and important for our girls and boys to be confident.  With Apps like Texture, its easy to look at the latest trends and find styles that work for you.
