Getting Ready for Back to School
Another school year is right around the corner and the girls are already talking about it. Fourth Grade, Kindergarten and Pre K, wow how time does fly by. A couple of weeks ago we did all our school supplies shopping and the girls have already packed up their new backpacks. Do you wait till last minute or do you get everything early? Do you spend some time during the summer doing some school work with the kids?
Over the summer I thought we would be spending at least an hour a day doing some school work. This turned into spending thirty minutes of reading time every day. We take an afternoon trip to our local library and get new books. I was happy to see that the New York Public Library had their Summer Reading program. This years theme was Blast Off to space, they gave the girls a Game board which would log their reading time. In the end, the readers will be rewarded with a summer reading party to celebrate. Along with some cute incentives; Pens, Pencils, Squishy Planets, Puzzles, Telescopes, Sling Rocket-ships, Alien Slime, and Bubbles. They had a great time doing this.
Now that the reading program is done and the girls got their treats from the library, it’s time to start working on school work. These last couple of weeks in August, we started catching up on things they learned the year prior and what they may be learning this year. Pinterest is usually my friend when looking for worksheets for the kids to work on. Teacherpayteachers.com is a website that allows you to see actual worksheets teachers have used for whichever subject you are looking for. You can also look for each grade and also Special Education worksheets. Some of the worksheets are free and some you pay for, but when you pay for them you are paying the teachers who took their time to create these worksheets and lesson plans. Which I don’t mind paying for, below is a screen shot from the website. If you are looking for worksheets now and during the school year for some extra work, I would definitely give this website a look.
